Synopsis

As of February 2025, there is no record of a Tamil-language film titled “Soorakottai” released in 2024. However, similarly titled films from previous years exist, such as “Soorakottai Singakutti” (1983) and “Soorakottai Marmam” (2017). Additionally, “Neela Nira Sooriyan,” a Tamil film released in October 2024, has garnered attention for its portrayal of a transgender individual’s journey.

“Neela Nira Sooriyan” is a poignant drama that delves into the life of Aravind, a high school teacher from a small town in Tamil Nadu, who embarks on a courageous journey to transition from male to female within a conservative community. The film marks the directorial debut of Samyuktha Vijayan, a Seattle-based Indian transwoman entrepreneur, who also stars in the lead role. The supporting cast includes Kitty Krishnamoorthy, Gajaraj, and Masanth Natarajan.
